The Island of Bone
An island in the midst of the green Southern Sea of the Dayside of Tao. Her shores are white and rocky limestone. From the air the island looks like a sliver of bone in the middle of the ocean. This may be how the island got its name.
Cleopatra Muse - Edmon’s mother; mocha skin; was born a commoner on Bone; daughter of a fisherman; beautiful... Daysiders of Bone do not distinguish between commoners and nobles. All denizens of the Island are equally respected. In their matriarchal society, however, Cleopatra's mother served as a chieftain and Cleopatra herself was always beautiful and headstrong. She followed in her mother's footsteps, serving the island in a leadership role and as such is as close to royalty as the islanders get. Upon Edric Leontes' triumph in his second Combat, he was gifted the deed to the island by the Grand Wusong (though the islanders never believed that there land was subject to ownership by anyone). He journeyed to Bone and was instantly smitten by the dark-haired woman. He bedded her, but realized that she was too proud and opinionated to ever be a concubine in the court of his new noble house. Cleopatra bore a son of mixed race, and though Edric made sure that the child's birth was noted by the Pantheon, he also was content to leave the boy in his mother's care in obscurity while he tended other business. In spite of their interpersonal conflict, Cleopatra was sad that Edric has left them largely ignored and has tried to raise Edmon to be a strong caring person.
Gorham - "the old musician and village elder..." Gorham has been a fixture on Bone for as long as anyone can remember. His skin is dark and worn from age, but his gap-toothed grin is as warm as eternal sunshine. Kindly Gorham is an expert player of the Sampo-guitar, among other instruments, and he views life much like the song and dance of the eventide feast - players come and go, but always lend their music to the whole. When not leading other islanders in the traditional rhythms of celebrations that accompany the end of each working day, he is a fisherman (as many are by trade on the dayside isles) and lending his ear or advice during chieftain councils.
Nadia- "dark skin and bright mahogany eyes with flecks of green in
them; dark brown hair; a little mole on her cheek..." The young girl Nadia is the best rock climber on Bone, having learned at a young age from her older brother, Yanoa. NAdia is the daughter of a fisherman, but that doesn't mean she isn't as strong or as worthy as any boy noble from Meridian, just ask her. Not only is she athletic, but she has a fierce independent streak. She can often be found in a quiet spot near the summit of Bone's high cliffs, on an outcropping that overlooks the green of the Southern Sea.
Maestro Bertinelli- "Maestro Luciano de Coranzo Bertinelli of the Sophia School of Music, Lyria..." Quite a mouthful of a title, but no less would be expected for the preeminent teacher of opera of planet Lyria's most illustrious school of music. The Maestro has taught some of the greatest singers in the entire Fracture, including the famed Andreas Catalano who was deemed the "Voice of a Generation" by Lyrian society. The Maestro was brought as a private tutor to the Julii Academy at a consideral sum because of the scion, Phaestion's, great love for Edmon of House Leontes. Edmon studies with the Maestro on the condition that he become planet Tao's greatest singer ever, a challenge Edmon is eager to live up to.
The Daysiders are the peaceful, dark-skinned, indigenous of Tao who populate the various islands which dot the aquatic side of Tao which always faces the sun.
